Another innocent black man is shot by a white Los Angeles County Sheriff after falling asleep on a neighbors lawn while police were in pursuit of a suspect fleeing the general area. The suspect police were chasing was Robert Alexander who had stolen a Honda Civic, but ran away firing at police several times.
Donnell Thompson was attending classes for the mentally disabled and in an earlier statement was classified as a second suspect, which was corrected at a later briefing as a classic case of mistaken identity.
On July 28th, The police had been called by a citizen about a guy laying in their yard. Thompson fell asleep unaware of police nearby associating him with a suspect who, blocks away, had been apprehended and not linked to the crime of suspect of which, police were in pursuit.
Police arrived and said that Thompson matched the description of the carjacker and began to give Thompson orders, which were "ignored". As the police once again escalated the attack by firing nonlethal rounds at a sleeping man and some of the rounds finally hit him and made him jump up and run towards two armor trucks that police admitted kept officers safe from harm, but not enough to refrain from shooting lethal rounds and killing him. Police said they needed to "protect" neighbors.
Apparently, it's now dangerous for someone to fall asleep, and once again a non armed black man is dead by trigger happy police who no longer protect the city they patrol, they petrify them.
